A new offline mode has been added to Notion

One of the most requested features from Notion users has always been the ability to use it offline. Due to its cloud-first architecture, Notion has long faced the limitation of not being usable without an internet connection. But now, Notion has solved this issue and is officially introducing Offline Mode. On Tuesday, the company even announced on X platform that this was the most requested feature from its users.

With this new feature, users will be able to view, edit, and create notes in Notion’s desktop and mobile apps without needing internet access. Pages can also be downloaded for offline access. Once the internet connection is restored, the changes made in the app will automatically sync and update. However, embeds, forms, and buttons will not function offline.

For those subscribed to Notion’s Plus, Business, or Enterprise plans, the app will automatically download recently viewed and favorite pages for offline use. Through the “Offline” option in the settings panel, users can also turn off automatic downloads and manage their offline files manually.

Notion’s CEO, Ivan Zhao, also explained on X platform:
“Because Notion relies on a complex database system inside the app to store different types of blocks, we weren’t able to provide offline functionality in the past. Additionally, we had to build a conflict-resolution mechanism to properly handle the many changes users make while working offline.”
