TikTok and Luminate collaborate to release the latest Music Report

TikTok, in collaboration with Luminate a trusted source for entertainment data and research recently released their second Music Impact Report.

The Music Impact Report 2024 provides an in-depth analysis of TikTok’s influence on the music industry, highlighting the unique role played by both the app and its user community. The report examines data from Luminate metrics, TikTok analytics, and the Billboard Global 200 Chart, incorporating insights from both the U.S. and global markets.

The report explores areas such as music discovery, the value TikTok generates beyond its platform, music streaming, the impact of “super fans,” and the overall success of artists. It evaluates how TikTok and its user base support and amplify artists and the broader music business. A key takeaway from the report is that “TikTok is a driving force behind music discovery, monetization, and chart success.”

The report also features case studies on the success stories of superstars, emerging artists, and legacy musicians on TikTok including Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Korn, and Alphaville detailing how the platform contributed to their popularity.

Some of the key global findings in the report include:

  • TikTok creates value beyond its platform.
    Since launching the “Add to Music App” feature in 2024, users have added songs over one billion times.

  • TikTok significantly impacts music streaming.
    Artists associated with TikTok generally experience higher annual streaming volumes than their peers. On average, TikTok-associated artists see an 11% weekly streaming growth rate compared to just 3% for other artists. For 96% of the artists studied, there was a clear correlation between their TikTok views and their overall streaming volume.

  • TikTok influences chart success.
    In 2024, 84% of the songs that made it onto the Billboard Global 200 chart had already gone viral on TikTok before charting.
