Did you know you can work as a freelancer and earn money online? Some of you already know this, but plenty of people are probably still finding out. So what exactly is a “freelancer”? In short, it’s someone who works on a part-time, project basis rather than as a full-time employee — for example, taking on a translation job or writing articles for a client. Even offline, freelance work usually means taking on a task part-time rather than as a permanent staff member, the way a part-time translator would. This is the largest freelance website in the world, based in Australia. It currently has more than 25 million employers and freelancers combined, and over 12 million projects have been posted on the platform.

Besides regular projects, the site also runs contests, and it offers skill exams that let a freelancer prove their expertise in a given field. There’s a fee to sit these exams, but passing them tends to bring in more work from employers. Payments can be made via American Express, Mastercard, Visa, JCB, and PayPal. With its wide range of job categories plus contests and exams, it’s fair to call this one of the best freelance platforms out there. The Freelancer app is also available, either from the website or the Google Play Store.
Truelancer.com
Next up is Truelancer.com, an India-based platform. It’s smaller than Freelancer.com, but it still offers a wide range of job categories and contests.

There are no exams here. Instead, ratings left by employers matter a great deal. It has a decent user base, including quite a few Myanmar freelancers, though the site doesn’t publish exact numbers. Payments go through Payoneer and PayPal. For Myanmar users specifically, its payment system isn’t all that convenient. The Truelancer app is also downloadable from its website or the Play Store.
Upwork.com
This is a platform with plenty of work for people in Myanmar. It’s also India-based. Translation jobs are common here, and so is content writing. The site states it covers more than 3,500 job categories.

Like Freelancer.com, it has contests and skill exams — and taking the exams here is free. Exact user numbers aren’t published, but it’s clearly a large community. Payment methods include American Express, Mastercard, Visa, and PayPal. Upwork also has an app, downloadable from its website or the Play Store.
Chate Sat
Chate Sat is a Myanmar freelancing website. It’s still a growing platform, currently running with 5,512 freelancers, 418 projects, and 935 employers. It’s a clean, easy-to-use site built with Myanmar users in mind.

Its Facebook page posts job-related updates through the Chate Sat freelancing platform and the Chate Sat Squad, and it also shares freelance opportunities from outside the platform. Chate Sat’s CEO even attended the Techsauce Global Summit in Bangkok to showcase the platform, which says a lot for a Myanmar freelancing site of its kind. Payments can be made easily through well-known local banks such as KBZ, AYA, YOMA, UAB, and MAB. There’s no app yet.
Myanmar Freelance Hub
Another Myanmar freelancing website, and also still growing, this one is well-suited for local users. It covers more than a hundred job categories, with writing jobs making up a large share. You can follow Myanmar Freelance Hub on its Facebook page.
Employers and companies from Thailand, China, and other countries also post jobs here, so it’s a platform worth keeping an eye on going forward. Myanmar Freelance Hub doesn’t currently charge for payment handling, though it’s reportedly working on linking up with local banks. According to the site, there’s no restriction on how employers and freelancers communicate with each other, which in effect creates a more direct, personal business connection between the two sides.
