Features for Families

Teen accounts now include over 50 unique features and settings designed specifically for them, enabling safe self-expression, connecting with friends, and learning on TikTok. In addition to built-in protections, TikTok also offers the Family Pairing service, helping parents and guardians support their teens’ needs appropriately. Through TikTok’s Digital Safety Partnership for Families, families are supported in having open conversations to better understand the online experiences of their teens.

TikTok has now introduced new Family Pairing features to help parents better understand their teens’ accounts:

  • When teens post content like videos, Stories, or photos visible to others, TikTok will automatically notify the connected parent through Family Pairing. This supports open communication between teens and parents without limiting creativity or independence.

  • Parents can better understand the privacy settings teens have selected. For example, whether teens aged 16–17 allow downloads of their content or allow others to view their following list. Through TikTok’s Manage Topics feature, parents can also see the types of content teens have chosen to shape their feed.

Supporting the Well-being of the Community

TikTok’s Screen Time Management and Sleep Hours features help users create balanced digital routines. Additionally, TikTok consulted with existing research, the Global Youth Council, and experts from Boston Children’s Hospital’s Digital Wellness Lab to improve digital experiences for users.

Today, TikTok introduces a new feature called Well-being Missions—short, engaging tasks designed to help users build long-term, healthy digital habits. After completing each mission, users receive badges that reward proactive behavior and encourage mindful engagement.
