Telecom Operators Announce Importance of SIM Re-registration
SIM cards users in Myanmar need to check their identification and re-register their SIM cards with correct information by 31 January 2023, as required by Posts and Telecommunications Department (PTD), Ministry of Transport and Communications.
It is believed that SIM re-registration can safeguard digital and physical security, and users can safely use mobile financial services and be protected from fraudulent activities.

All SIM card users in Myanmar are required to register SIM cards using their full name, Citizenship Scrutiny Card (National Registration Card, NRC) number and its clear and correct front and back color photos by the activation of the SIM card. Based on the announcement by the Posts and Telecommunications Department, SIM card information shall be checked against the national database of the Ministry of Immigration and Population and cards with incomplete/incorrect information shall be deactivated. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that all SIM card users in Myanmar check their identification and re-register their SIM cards within the defined period to avoid the deactivation.

SIM card users can check their current registered ID by dialing *601# for Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (MPT), *766# (or) *979*3*3# for ATOM, *666# for Ooredoo and *966*6# choose 2 for Mytel. SIM card users can also check their SIM registration information by using the respective operator’s Application (or) official website (or) at the respective own store.

SIM registration applies to all SIM cards sold in the market and all operators are required to follow the regulations of the Posts and Telecommunications Department for any sale of SIM cards. Therefore, SIM card users are encouraged to register their SIM purchased at the respective point of sales.
