Customize your TikTok Feed for a better experience

TikTok is helping users customize their For You feed to have a fun experience. The For You feed, the first screen you see when you open the app, continuously updates videos that are tailored to each user’s interests. Powered by a smart recommendation system, it will display videos, creators, and trending topics that match your preferences based on how you use the app.

The adaptability for users is a unique feature of the For You feed. TikTok considers what content you watch, like, share, comment on, or search for, and uses this information to adjust new recommendations. For more transparency, if you want to know why a video appeared in your feed, you can tap “Why this video?” in the Share Panel. This feature explains whether the video is similar to other videos you’ve watched, is popular in your region, or was recently uploaded.

TikTok also provides many tools to help shape your viewing experience. These include features like “liking” preferred content, “following” creators who produce content aligning with your interests, marking videos you dislike as “Not Interested,” searching for content that matches your current interests, filtering keywords to avoid content related to specific terms, enabling “Restricted Mode” for a more controlled experience, and “refreshing” your For You feed to reset video recommendations.

To expand user control over content discovery, TikTok recently introduced two new features that help the For You feed.

• “Manage Topics,” you can customize your feed to see more of your preferred content from over ten popular themes, such as creative arts, travel, nature, and sports. This will help you limit content that doesn’t align with your preferences and discover more of what you enjoy.

• “Smart Keyword Filters” will enhance keyword filtering with AI technology. This upgraded feature not only blocks specified words for filtering but also identifies related words and synonyms to allow for more precise filtering. Users can review and adjust filtered words at any time. In the future, the number of filterable words will be increased, and work is also underway to allow bulk input of keywords for faster and more accurate filtering.
