Facebook, Instagram, and Threads Suffer Nearly Two-Hour Outage

Starting at 9:47 PM on March 5, 2024, Meta’s Facebook, Instagram, and Threads platforms suffered a worldwide outage. The disruption, which affected users across the globe, lasted nearly two hours. Meta resolved the issue by 11:37 PM the same night, restoring normal service.

During the outage, users ran into problems accessing Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads. Some Meta Quest headset users also reported trouble logging in. Many users found themselves logged out of Facebook, while Instagram feeds failed to refresh. On Threads, users were met with the message “Sorry, something went wrong. Try again.” Notably, while Meta’s platforms went down worldwide, WhatsApp continued to function normally throughout the outage.

Meta posted updates on its Platform Status page throughout the incident, noting when the issue was first identified, when it was being worked on, and when it was fully resolved.
