MPT, Myanmar’s first and leading telecommunications operator, has donated emergency food supplies worth 20 million kyats to local communities in flood-affected Bago Region (East), in line with its “MPT — Always By Your Side” commitment. In addition, MPT has provided 2GB of data and 100 minutes of free MPT-to-MPT calls to help local residents stay connected with family and friends during the recovery period. This service is available from October 11 to October 17.

Under this initiative, MPT was able to support a total of 710 households in need across Bago Region (East). Each household received basic food items, including 1 pyi of rice, 4 tins of canned fish, 4 packs of dried noodles, 10 eggs, 50 kyattha (about 800g) of cooking oil, and 4 packs of oral rehydration salts.
According to a report in the Myanma Alinn newspaper, the Bago River reached 104 cm at 6:30am on October 9 and continued to rise. As a result, some townships in Bago Region (East) experienced temporary telecom service disruptions on October 8. In line with its commitment to “stand with Myanmar,” MPT was able to restore telecom services to normal in most major townships in Bago Region (East) starting from 9:30pm on October 9.

In line with its commitments, MPT aims to ensure that local communities affected by natural disasters can stay connected with their loved ones and have access to emergency food supplies.
“During this difficult time, we want to be with the local communities in Bago Region (East), and our emergency food donation is intended to help ease, to some extent, the emotional distress of those affected by the natural disaster. We hope that by providing essential connectivity and emergency food support, we can help ease their hardship and provide some peace of mind. In line with our commitment to ‘always stand together,’ MPT will always be ready to support Myanmar’s communities,” said Mr. Naoki Shimane, Deputy Chief Officer of the Business Operations Division at MPT-KSGM Joint Operations.
