This page tracks what making a phone call actually costs in Myanmar. We check the operators’ own published pricing and record what each one discloses — including, where it applies, what they do not disclose.

It replaces two articles we published in August 2019, one covering MPT and Mytel and one covering Telenor and Ooredoo. Both of those operators have since changed hands and names, which is a good illustration of why a dated snapshot is the wrong format for this information.
What changed since 2019
If you are reading an older guide to Myanmar call packages — including our own — check the operator names first:
- Telenor Myanmar exited the country and the business was renamed ATOM in June 2022.
- Ooredoo Myanmar rebranded as U9 in September 2025.
- MPT and Mytel operate under the same names.
Any tariff table that still lists Telenor or Ooredoo is at least three years out of date.
MPT voice packs
MPT publishes its voice packs in full, with prices, included minutes and validity. These are the packs listed on its Voice & SMS page.
A Kyite Pyaw + Pack (MPT to MPT only)

An auto-renewing version of the same pack is slightly cheaper: 967 Ks (7 days), 1,917 Ks (30 days) and 3,917 Ks (90 days) for the same minute allowances.
Kyite Yar Khaw Pack (any local operator)
This is the pack to look at if you call numbers outside MPT. Unused minutes carry over for seven days.

What the packs actually buy you
The on-net and any-network packs are not comparable minute-for-minute, and the gap is large. On the 30-day packs, A Kyite Pyaw + works out at roughly 15 Ks per minute within MPT. Kyite Yar Khaw, which lets you call any operator, is priced at a level where the per-minute cost is several times higher.
That gap is the single most useful thing to know before choosing a pack: if most of the people you call are on MPT, the on-net pack is dramatically cheaper. If they are spread across operators, the arithmetic changes completely.
ATOM published rates
ATOM publishes pay-as-you-go rates rather than a comparable list of voice packs:

These are tax-exclusive figures and, per ATOM’s own note, have applied since 5 August 2025. Commercial tax is 5% on voice, SMS and service fees, and 15% on data.
ATOM does not publish a local per-minute call rate on its public packages page. We are stating that rather than estimating it. If you need the figure, it is shown in the ATOM app against your own price plan.
U9 and Mytel
Neither operator publishes voice pricing in a form we could verify at the time of writing.
U9 publishes its data packs publicly but does not present an equivalent public page for voice packs. Mytel’s public site did not return usable tariff information when we checked.
We would rather say this plainly than fill the gap with numbers copied from an older article. Voice pricing that is three or four years stale is worse than no figure at all, because it looks current.
How to check your own rate
Whatever the published tables say, the rate that applies to you depends on the price plan attached to your SIM, and plans are frequently changed or closed to new subscribers without announcement. The reliable check is in the operator’s own app — MPT4U for MPT, the ATOM app, the U9 app or the Mytel app — where the current plan and its rates are shown against your number.
FAQ
Which operator is cheapest for calls in Myanmar?
There is no single answer, because the on-net discount dominates. Calling within the same network is far cheaper than calling across networks on every operator that publishes rates. The cheapest operator for you is usually the one most of the people you call already use.
Do unused pack minutes carry over?
On MPT’s Kyite Yar Khaw pack, yes — unused minutes carry for seven days. Carry-over is not a general feature of Myanmar voice packs, so check it per pack.
Are these prices tax-inclusive?
ATOM states its published rates are tax-exclusive, with 5% commercial tax on voice and SMS. Treat any headline figure as the pre-tax price unless the operator says otherwise.
Why do older guides list Telenor and Ooredoo?
Because they were accurate when written. Telenor became ATOM in June 2022 and Ooredoo became U9 in September 2025. Guides that have not been updated since then, including our own 2019 articles that this page replaces, list operators that no longer exist under those names.
