OPPO partners with UNESCO to expand access to education equity and digital inclusion across Asia and Africa

Following its earlier donation of tablets in Thailand, global leading smartphone brand OPPO pledged to donate 1,000 tablets to five more countries across Asia and Africa, and has now successfully fulfilled that commitment. This initiative was implemented in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO and a Children’s Programming Education Brand. In support of the slogan “Technology for Mankind, Kindness for the World,” OPPO continues to leverage its innovative technologies to expand opportunities for participation in education equity and digital inclusion.

Promoting the adoption of digital learning in pilot schools in Thailand

On December 15, global leading smartphone brand OPPO donated a total of 200 tablets to two pilot schools, Lampang Kanlayanee School and Rayongwittayakom School, during Thailand’s AI and Digital Innovation Practice Day event. Patrick Zhang, Chief Operating Officer of OPPO Thailand, officially handed over the tablets, which will be used by teachers and students for advanced programming training.

These tablets come preloaded with programming courses from the “Youth Coding Initiative,” jointly developed by UNESCO and CODEMAO. The initiative aims not only to enable safe, inclusive, and accessible use of technology across Africa and Asia, but also to promote education equity.

Enhancing digital inclusion across Asia and Africa through tablet donations

The tablet donation to Thailand is not merely a standalone act of support, but a testament to the successful completion of OPPO’s large scale donation program announced in September 2024, which committed to providing a total of 1,000 tablets to schools in Thailand, Congo, Brazil, Kenya, Namibia, and Côte d’Ivoire.

This initiative, carried out in partnership with UNESCO, prioritizes strengthening foundational education based on emerging technologies in developing countries such as Congo and Brazil. The programming courses integrated with OPPO tablets will serve as key resources for sustainable long term technology education. In addition, the program aims to address educational needs by promoting peer learning and organizing coding competitions to further enhance essential digital skills among youth across Africa. Although limited hardware availability in countries like Kenya, Namibia, and Côte d’Ivoire has previously hindered the growth of digital education, this collaboration will help rebuild new digital classrooms, significantly improve access to technology, and create equal opportunities for young people.

Partnering with UNESCO reflects OPPO’s strong commitment to empowering youth and expanding participation in digital inclusion. OPPO has consistently strived to create positive long term impacts within communities and will continue to leverage advancing technologies to fulfill its responsibilities in sustainable corporate social responsibility initiatives.
