YouTube Shorts Is Testing New Features

YouTube Shorts is a feature YouTube created to compete with TikTok, letting users upload 15-second videos to their own accounts. Viewers can like, dislike, comment on, and share these Shorts.

Since 15 seconds is quite a short window, YouTube will soon extend Shorts to up to 60 seconds, giving creators more room to remix content and add music. With the limit moving from 15 seconds to 60 seconds, creators will be able to do a lot more with their content.

According to the company, YouTube Shorts is used by more than 1.5 billion logged-in monthly users, with over 30 billion daily views. This new feature, letting videos run up to 60 seconds, is set to roll out soon to YouTube users worldwide on both Android and iOS.

YouTube, with its solid user base, is also testing a shopping feature on Shorts, one of its most popular features. Currently, this is only being tested with a select group of creators in the United States who are linked to their own storefronts.

Users in the United States, India, Brazil, Canada, and Australia will be able to see stores tagged directly within Shorts. Alongside this feature, there’s also a commission system that pays creators back for purchases made from the products they recommend.

YouTube has been building out its platform for shopping for a few years now, adding features that let viewers shop directly through ads and creator livestreams. With shopping features now coming to Shorts through recommended products, this is set to be a feature that benefits brands as well.
