This smartphone has something no other phone offers: a built-in sensor designed to help you take better care of your own health. Because it can scan food and medicine, you can tell for yourself what’s safe to consume and what to avoid.
The sensor can tell counterfeit medicine from the real thing, and can also analyze the chemical composition of food. In particular, it can calculate the calorie content of sweets and desserts, letting you check whether something fits your dietary needs.
The phone is made by Changhong, a China-based manufacturer, and uses a built-in Scio sensor. The sensor isn’t always perfect and can occasionally give inaccurate readings — sometimes due to how the user scans the item — but it gets things right a large percentage of the time.
Company executives have already settled on a price for the phone, though it hasn’t been officially announced yet. It’s expected to go on sale later this year, launching in China before the United States. You can watch a video introducing the phone here.
