The pandemic Covid-19 profoundly changed the global political and economic arena. With the rising number of total COVID-19 confirmed cases in Myanmar, the economy and businesses especially in the tourism industry have been severely affected.
However, Avis Myanmar believes in the prospect of the country after this challenging period with the plan to continue the investment by tripling the size of Avis Fleet in 2021 with estimated investment values around USD 4 million.
Prasoporn Tansupasiri, General Manager of Avis Myanmar remarks, “We are confident in Myanmar long-term economic prospects although the pandemic triggered some business disruptions that many industries are facing. We strongly believe that Myanmar will pass this difficult time and the country will regain economic growth that stimulates the investments that will give us the opportunity to deliver our products and services to the end-users”
The outbreak poses a huge impact on the vehicle rental business due to the restrictions, the absence of tourists, and international businesses.
Prasoporn Tansupasiri, General Manager of Avis Myanmar, commented “I am afraid that there is no exception to car rental business when it comes to Covid-19 pandemic impact. As the pandemic posed a great challenge to global mobility, Avis short-term car rental volume especially hotel limousine dropped significantly, starting from late Q1 and continued till present because of stricter travel restrictions.”
