A good friend to farmers: The Green Way App

As agriculture plays the main role in Myanmar’s economy, it is very crucial to improve the quality
and quantity of agricultural exports of Myanmar. So, it is important to develop the traditional
agricultural methods along with the advanced technologies and establish the modernized
agriculture for better efficiency. By using the advanced technologies and methods, farmers will
no longer have to provide water or fertilizers to the whole field, but instead, will focus on only the
required area. This way, lesser amount of resources and effort are consumed and, this, in turn,
will encourage better efficiency and effectiveness in agricultural processes. By the reduction of
water and fertilizers in the farms, the productivity will be increased as the cost of supplements
becomes lower. This will also reduce the environmental impacts by cutting down the amount of
chemicals dissolving underground and into rivers. At the same time, it will also promote
workplace safety for farm-workers. So, realizing the importance of knowledge-sharing to farmers
on alternative agricultural methods, “Green Way” is brought to farmers.

Rather than solely focusing on developing new technologies, Green Way is actually more like a
network that encourages farmers to do a mutual knowledge-sharing as it was developed by
combining the classroom lessons of university students, their practical farming experiences, and
the experiences shared mutually by farmers during the training sessions led by the students.
