MPT Initiates Nationwide Book Donation, Bringing Nearly 4,000 Books to Local Community In Commemoration of Writers’ Day

MPT, Myanmar’s first and leading telecommunications operator, held its first Nationwide Book Donation across 13 States and Regions in commemoration of  Writers’ Day. The donation ceremonay took place at MPT Training Center in Pazundaung Township, Yangon and respective MPT Offices and Libraries at Nationwide locations. The donation ceremony was attended by MPT’s Management members in relevant State & Regional locations, representatives from the libraries.

This initiative was made possible through generous book donations from MPT employees nationwide. In total, nearly 4,000 books were donated to respective receiving libraries across 13 States and Regions, with the aim of fostering reading habits and encouraging youth engagement with literature.

The Writes’ Day was first proposed around 1939 by U Ohn Pe (Tet Toe) and U Yu Sein, the Minister of Revenue, who initially suggested commemorating U Ponnya Day. The very first Writers’ Day ceremony was held on the 1st Waxing of Natdaw, 1306 ME (November 15, 1944), at the Myoma Dramatic Hall in Kandawgyi. Today, Writers’ Day is traditionally celebrated annually on the 1st Waxing of Natdaw, featuring literary talks, honoring ceremonies, and tributes to senior writers.

In commemoration of Writers’ Day, MPT successfully donated nearly 4,000 books to the libraries listed in the table below, which are located across 13 States and Regions. Donated books covered more than 10 categories, featuring in Arts, Literature, Technology, Natural Science, History, and Geography.
