Notice from MPT: SIM should not be purchased without full verification

According to the rules and regulations of the Myanmar Post and Telecommunications Department (PTD), all the new Sim cards from different telecommunication operators will only be able to sell at the authorized shops. Due to that, MPT would ensure about not selling the unregistered SIM cards and it will create the system in such a way that MPT valued customers will only be able to use the SIM card only after registration.

Not only that, but each user can also only register two SIM cards with their legal names. More than that, to avoid fraud, the user will only be able to use it after fully and valid verification. The MPT users need to fill the information of the official name of the SIM holder and NRC number for Myanmar Citizen/ Passport number for Foreign Citizen for verification.

By June 30, the users will not be able to use their SIMs if they have not registered it with all the valid information about themselves, bought it from the street shops or the SIM has been inactive for a long period of time. Not to lose their Sim, MPT would like to request its valued users that they should not neglect about SIM registration and should not purchase their SIM from the shops who won’t give them the service of registration.

In addition to that, MPT has prohibited its authorized sellers from selling the SIM without the user’s registration or selling the pre-registered SIM to its customers. “I would like to re-emphasize that, SIM registration has become one of the legal matters to avoid people using it carelessly and to reduce fraud and abuse cases. As MPT has implemented the system of “SIM will be in use state only after fully verification”, I would also like to urge all the users to register the SIM as soon as possible by choosing the suitable method from the various ways given. Most importantly, I would like to make a note to the users that they should only purchase their SIM from the MPT authorized shop.” said Mr. Tetsunori Nagashima, chief executive officer of MPT-KGSM Joint Operations.
