As announced, on July 12, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei officially introduced the Nothing Phone 1, the first product from his own tech company, Nothing Technology Limited (NOTHING). It’s fair to say the Nothing Phone 1 has entered the smartphone market with a truly distinctive, innovative design.
The launch event, titled “Return to Instinct,” was livestreamed on Nothing’s official YouTube channel. Unlike most launch events, this one lasted just 37 minutes from start to finish — a phone introduced concisely and to the point in a short amount of time.

The Nothing Phone 1 features a 6.55-inch, 120Hz OLED display with HDR10+ support. Its camera system includes a dual setup with a 50MP main sensor and an ultrawide sensor. The battery comes in at 4,500mAh, supporting 33W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. With its transparent back design, the Nothing Phone 1 runs on a Snapdragon 778G+ chipset. It’s also stated that just 30 minutes of charging gets you to 50% battery, with up to 18 hours of use.
The Nothing Phone 1’s transparent back design incorporates what’s called the Glyph Interface — a set of glyph flash lights. Visible on the back are the Nothing logo, dual camera, wireless charging coil, and LED lights. These LEDs light up in sync with ringtones and notification sounds whenever a call or notification comes in. According to the event video, there are 10 different Glyph Interface styles available.
The entire event was filmed using the Nothing Phone 1 itself, which also gave a good showcase of just how capable its camera is.
