Myanmar starts assembling Korean technology Daewoo Buses

According to the press conference held on 11 June 2019 at Daewoo Myanmar Co. Ltd in HtaukKyant Township, the Daewoo Bus Myanmar Co. Ltd is going to startassembling buses with Korean technology.

Two types of buses known as Daewoo City Bus BS 106 and Lester minibus are going to be started assembling. Only five of each type will be manufactured during the trial period. However, approximately 500 vehicles of each type will be manufactured annually in the upcoming years, according to the Managing Director of Daewoo Bus Myanmar Dr. KyawKyawAung.

“Production will be increased later in accord with the purchase demand. It has been 62 years in Korea that these types of buses have been manufactured in Korean bus industry. Korean engineers will train for the production in Myanmar and the best service will be given.Our main purpose is to have high-grade buses in the public transportation”, he said.

Production engineers of Myanmar had been sent to Korea as apprentices and trained the assembling processes. Korean engineers will aid in production process in Myanmar. Service centers of Daewoo Bus Myanmar will be opened in HtaukKyant Township in Yangon, and Mandalay and Naypyidaw.

Dr. KyawKyawAung continued that prices will be USD 85000 for Daewoo City Bus BS 106 and USD 45000 for Lester minibus. Currently, Daewoo vehicles are being manufactured in Korea, China, Costa Rica, Vietnam, Pakistan and Taiwan with SKD (Semi Knocked- Down) system.

He said: “Buses are manufactured intending for both domestic and international uses. Later, we will produce in accord with the purchasing order.”

The two types of Daewoo buses which will be manufactured by the Daewoo Bus Myanmar were produced in Korea and this is the first ever manufacturing in Myanmar. The two types of buses are higher than SKD level which is currently manufactured in Myanmar. And BS 106 level Lester minibus is being manufactured by lower level CKD.

The MD Dr. KyawKyawAung from Daewoo Bus Myanmar Co. Ltd continued and explained that qualities of the buses will be equitable to that of the buses manufactured in Korea. Both diesel and CNG using vehicles will be available.

According to the press release, these types of buses are being assembling in seven countries and Myanmar is the eighth nation to manufacture them. BS 106 and Lester buses have been leading the global CNG using vehicle market for more than 20 years and mainly exported to Asia, Middle East and Latin America.

Accessories for the vehicles will be available easily and all technologies used in the vehicles are in line with the Korea Daewoo Bus Standard so that the quality is guaranteed, stated in the press release.

Daewoo Bus Myanmar Co., ltd was established in March 2017 and the manufacturing plant of Daewoo Bus Myanmar is located in Htauk Kyant Township, Yangon which has area of 14 acres. The company leased the compound for the assembling plant from the state government.
