“Double the Donation with ATOM” Campaign Successfully Delivers Critical Water Supply System to Earthquake-Affected School
ATOM, Myanmar’s leading 4.5G VoLTE telecom provider, has provided solar-powered water purification system to Yadanar San Thar Tha Nar Paing Kyaung Tike, an earthquake-hit monastic education school in Mahar Aung Myay Township, Mandalay region. ATOM’s “Double the Donation” program successfully restores access to safe and clean drinking water through the support of UN-Habitat.
“Double the Donation with ATOM” program launched on 1st April 2025, was designed to aid earthquake-affected areas through donations made by ATOM customers and employees via SMS. Through the program, ATOM customers and employees contributed a total of over 25.9 million MMK and ATOM doubled the donation amount, reaching over 51.8 million MMK. The donation represents a meaningful effort to empower communities in rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of the earthquake.

The newly installed solar-powered water purification system can produce a minimum of 1,000 liters of clean water per hour. The system comprises solar panels, a water filtration and purification unit, storage tanks, and taps designed for long-term use with an expected operational life of over 10 years. The solar-powered water purification system provides a continuous water supply even during power outages, offering a sustainable, low-cost alternative to traditional electricity or fuel dependent systems.

UN-Habitat supported with the technical expertise and oversight, managing the procurement, installation, and monitoring of the system while providing training to school administrators, teachers, and staff to ensure its effective and sustainable operation. Additionally, the project includes a WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) awareness program to promote safe water use and hygiene practices among students and community members.
