MPT has announced that, under the amended Union Tax Law issued on January 6, 2022, a one-time commercial tax of exactly 20,000 Myanmar kyats will now apply to SIM card activation services, while a 15% commercial tax will be charged on internet data usage across mobile, fixed-line, and fiber technologies.
MPT also announced that there will be changes to its product and service rates for internet data usage, as well as to the SIM card activation service itself. Voice calls and SMS usage will remain unaffected and can continue to be used as before.
