Myanmar’s telecom sector has come a long way since the days when a SIM card cost 1,500 kyats — a turning point that, along with the arrival of Ooredoo and Telenor, helped push the industry toward where it stands today. It’s not just individuals benefiting either; a growing range of network services now caters to companies, organizations, and businesses as well. Telecom development is arguably one of the most important factors in a country’s overall growth. Here’s a full rundown of the operating licenses Myanmar’s government has issued so far for the telecom sector.
According to the Posts and Telecommunications Department, local and foreign companies applying for telecom service licenses are being reviewed and issued licenses accordingly.
Applicants for telecom service licenses are currently being reviewed in line with telecommunications laws and regulations before licenses are granted. So far, the department has issued 4 Nationwide Telecommunication Licences, 44 Network Facilities Services Licences (Individual), 39 Network Facilities Services Licences (Class), 16 Network Service Licences, and 20 Application Service Licences.
