Ooredoo Myanmar Relaunches

Ooredoo Myanmar, one of the country’s leading international telecom operators, is relaunching its “1 Kyat for Every 1 Minute of Talk” program starting July 1, continuing its ongoing commitment to support education and social development for the people of Myanmar. Under this program, every time a customer makes an Ooredoo-to-Ooredoo call, Ooredoo Myanmar donates 1 kyat from its own revenue for every minute of talk time.

Ooredoo Myanmar has run this nationwide program since 2017, donating 1 kyat for every minute customers spend talking to one another, with the aim of supporting the education and social development of communities in need across the country. Through the program, Ooredoo Myanmar has so far provided a total of over 12,000 lakh kyats in funding to monastic education schools, orphanages, and youth training centers. These donations have gone toward building new educational facilities, constructing digital centers, and renovating older buildings so that children in underserved communities can continue to receive free education.

Daw Htar Than Zin, Acting CEO of Ooredoo Myanmar, said, “Today marks the relaunch of the ‘1 Minute, 1 Kyat’ program, the largest social impact initiative in our nine years as Ooredoo Myanmar. Corporate Social Responsibility is a major pillar of what we do, and we place particular emphasis on supporting education and healthcare in Myanmar. As the old sayings go, ‘knowledge brings dignity to a people,’ ‘courage in learning brings success in life,’ and ‘a golden pot of knowledge cannot be stolen’ — we all share the belief that education matters immensely. That’s why we are reviving the ‘1 Minute, 1 Kyat’ program today: because among all the initiatives we have run for communities across Myanmar, support for education has been the most impactful. Monastic education schools and nunneries play a very significant role in Myanmar’s education sector, helping produce many educated citizens, which is why this round of the program will once again focus its donations on these institutions.”
