As Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology continues to advance, more and more apps, websites, and browsers are integrating AI into their features. Among the apps upgrading with AI is the dating app Tinder.
Tinder is set to start using AI in its Photo Verification feature, which users go through after uploading their information and photos to get verified. Currently, users take photos as instructed for the Photo Verification feature, and once verified, they receive a blue checkmark. Soon, Tinder will introduce an upgraded version of this feature that uses video selfies instead of photos to verify users. It’s also reported that users will be able to restrict their chats to only Photo Verified members.

As using AI tools to create fake photos has become increasingly common, the company says this update is meant to help users use the app more safely.
With the Video Verification feature, the AI system will cross-check the video submitted by the user against their profile photos to determine authenticity. To do this, the AI system will match a 3D model of the user’s face against their existing photos.
With this feature rolling out, users wanting to get Photo Verified will need to record a video selfie, which will replace the previous photo upload step.
The company also noted that users who were previously Photo Verified and are currently using the blue checkmark will need to update to the latest version of the app to keep their verified badge. This update is designed not only to make the video selfie process more secure, but also to screen for changes in the appearance of long-time users due to aging.
Along with this update, Tinder is also reportedly planning to introduce a feature in Message Settings that lets users see other Photo Verified members in their recommendations, and will require users to complete Photo Verification before they can send messages.
For Tinder Gold subscribers, they will be able to filter their “Likes” page to show only Photo Verified members.
