JCGV Ticket Booking in 2026: The App Is Now Called J Cineplex

In March 2019, Myanmar Tech Press wrote about the JCGV app, which let moviegoers in Yangon and other cities pick a seat on their phone instead of queuing at the counter. People still search “JCGV ticket booking” and “JCGV app” today. The cinema chain and the app have both changed since then, so the old instructions no longer match what you will see.

We have rewritten this page with what we could confirm from the app stores and other primary sources in October 2026. We also list what we could not confirm, so you know where to double-check before you go.

Short Answer: Use the “J Cineplex” App

The Android app we linked in 2019 still exists at the same Google Play address. It is now called J Cineplex, not JCGV.

  • Android: J Cineplex on Google Play. The publisher is shown as “Cultureplex”. It has 100K+ downloads and a 3.9-star rating from about 630 reviews. It was last updated on July 21, 2026.
  • iPhone: J Cineplex on the App Store. The developer is YAMMOBOTS COMPANY LIMITED. It is rated 2.6 stars from 83 ratings. The latest version, 1.2.1, came out in July 2026.

The two listings point to the same product. The Android app’s privacy policy is still hosted at an address with “jcgv” in it (jcgv.yammobots.com), and Yammobots is the developer on the App Store. If you search for “JCGV” and find nothing, this is why: the name has changed, but the app has not been replaced.

Use the official store links above. Do not install the app from APK mirror sites. You will be paying through it, and a modified copy is a real risk.

Why JCGV Became J Cineplex

The chain started as Junction Cineplex, run by Myanmar’s Shwe Taung Group. South Korea’s CJ CGV later formed a joint venture with Shwe Taung Development to operate it, according to Screen Daily. That is where the “JCGV” name came from. Japanese Embassy notices for the 2018 and 2019 Japanese Film Festival list the Yangon venue as “JCGV Junction City”.

A Vietnamese business publication reported in February 2024 that CJ CGV completed its withdrawal from the Myanmar market in the fourth quarter of 2023. We could not find an announcement from CJ CGV itself. We also could not find the terms of the exit, or when exactly the cinemas dropped the CGV name.

Shwe Taung Group’s Lifestyle page (last modified in July 2025) now calls the chain J Cineplex. It says the group has “22 screens in 8 cinemas” and “1 Million moviegoers in our 8 J Cineplex cinemas”. The page does not say when those figures were measured. Some other numbers on the same page refer to 2019, so treat them as the company’s own figures rather than a current count.

How Buying a Ticket Works Now

According to the app’s store description, J Cineplex lets you:

  • see which movies are showing now and coming soon, with synopsis, cast, rating and running time;
  • check showtimes by movie or by cinema, and get directions through Google Maps;
  • choose your own seat from a live seat map;
  • pay through “a variety of payment service providers”, which the description says include banks, mobile money agents and convenience store chains;
  • receive a booking and payment code as a notification, and call the hotline from inside the app.

The description does not name the payment providers. Our 2019 article mentioned MPU, G&G convenience stores and OK$. We could not confirm whether those are still accepted. One App Store review from September 2025 mentions Visa and MPU as options in the app.

The “Book Now, Pay Later” Option May Be Gone

In 2019, the app offered two choices: book a seat and pay before a deadline, or buy the ticket straight away. The latest update notes on both stores (July 2026) say only: “remove book button”.

We have not used the updated app, so we cannot say for sure that reservations without payment are gone. But if you remember being able to hold seats and pay later at a store or the counter, expect that this may no longer work. Plan to pay in the app when you choose your seats.

User reviews also explain why this change may have been made. A Google Play review from May 2025 says bookings expired after two hours, could not be cancelled, and could be made late at night when the counter was already closed. Other reviews describe payments that went through but no ticket appeared. These are individual user reports, not official statements. Still, they suggest a practical rule: after paying, check that a code has actually arrived before you leave home. If it has not, screenshot the payment confirmation and contact the hotline straight away.

Which Cinemas Are in the App?

We could not get a current, official list of J Cineplex locations. The chain does not appear to have its own website. The app’s “website” link goes to the developer, Yammobots. Shwe Taung’s page gives a count of 8 cinemas but no list.

User reviews from 2025 mention buying tickets for Junction City and City Mall cinemas in Yangon through the app. The app itself shows which cinemas you can book, so check there for the current list.

What We Could Not Confirm

  • A full, current list of J Cineplex cinemas and their addresses
  • Ticket prices (we did not want to repeat old numbers that would look current)
  • The hotline number (the app says it has one, but we could not find it published elsewhere)
  • Which banks and wallets are accepted for in-app payment, and whether any fee is charged
  • Whether booking without payment is fully gone after the July 2026 update
  • When and how the CGV name was dropped, and the details of CJ CGV’s exit

Our Take: The App Outlasted the Brand Behind It

This page shows something we often see when we go back to old Myanmar app articles. The international partner left, and the brand name the article was written about is gone. But the local operator, the cinemas and even the app’s Google Play address are still the same. Readers who search for the old name are not looking for history. They want to know how to get a seat for a film this weekend. The answer has not changed much: open the app, choose your seat, pay. Only the name on the icon is different.

What has changed is the trust model. In 2019, the “book now, pay later” option was a big selling point, because many people did not pay for things online. In 2026, the app appears to be dropping that option and moving fully to paying up front. That works for people with mobile banking or a wallet. But it puts more weight on the payment step working, and on customer service answering quickly when it does not. Reviews suggest that is still the weak point.

If you are writing about or building a ticketing service in Myanmar, this is the lesson. Showing the films and the seat map is the easy part. The hard part is the few minutes between paying and having proof of a ticket in hand.

FAQ

Is the JCGV app still available?

Yes, under a new name. The same app is now called J Cineplex on Google Play and the App Store. It was updated in July 2026.

Is JCGV still part of CGV?

A February 2024 report said CJ CGV finished leaving Myanmar in late 2023. The cinemas now use the J Cineplex name under Shwe Taung Group. We could not find an official CJ CGV statement about the exit.

Can I reserve a seat and pay later?

Possibly not anymore. The July 2026 update notes on both app stores say “remove book button”. Expect to pay in the app when you choose your seats.

How do I pay for J Cineplex tickets?

The app says it works with banks, mobile money agents and convenience store chains, but it does not name them. Users have mentioned Visa and MPU. Check the payment screen in the app for the current options.

What should I do if I paid but did not receive a ticket code?

Keep a screenshot of the payment confirmation and contact the hotline from inside the app before going to the cinema. Users report that counter staff may not be able to fix app payment problems on the spot.

How much is a J Cineplex ticket?

We could not confirm current prices from an official source. The app shows the price when you pick a showtime and seat.
