Rakuten Viber Achieves SOC 2 Type II Certification for Its Security and Data Protection Practices

Rakuten Viber, the leading global communications platform offering secure messaging and calling, has been awarded Service Organization Control (SOC) 2 Type II certification for its security and personal data protection systems. The SOC 2 standard, established by the prestigious American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), is an internationally recognized certification awarded only after a rigorous review of a company’s security systems, data protection technologies, policies, and practices.

The certification was issued by Ernst & Young, one of the world’s largest professional services firms, after confirming that Rakuten Viber’s security systems, data protection technologies, policies, and practices fully meet the SOC 2 standard.

“Achieving SOC 2 Type II certification marks a major milestone for Rakuten Viber, and further proves our ongoing commitment to providing our users with the most secure services possible. We’ll continue focusing on our mission to remain the most capable, trusted communications platform for fully protecting our users’ personal data,” said Liad Shnell, VP Engineering and CISO at Rakuten Viber.

Beyond earning SOC 2 certification, Rakuten Viber continues to strengthen its other required monitoring and processes on an ongoing basis. Back in 2016, Viber was also the first communications app to introduce end-to-end encryption for one-on-one chats, group chats, and video calls.
