Now that Apple has introduced the iPhone 15 series, it’s fair to say all eyes are turning to the iPhone 16 lineup expected in 2024. As is typical whenever a new iPhone lineup is on the horizon, rumors and leaks are already circulating — so what new features and changes might the iPhone 16 lineup bring?
The biggest expected change for the iPhone 16 centers on the display. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to get larger screen sizes. Images shared by leaker Sonny Dickson are believed to show dummy units for the standard iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, which are expected to launch toward the end of 2024. While the iPhone 16 series is rumored to feature thinner display bezels, the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to keep the same display sizes as their iPhone 15 counterparts. The iPhone 16 Pro, however, is expected to grow by 0.2 inches over the iPhone 15 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max by 0.2 inches over the iPhone 15 Pro Max — putting the iPhone 16 Pro Max at roughly 6.9 inches, making it a notably large-screened phone.
It’s also worth considering whether battery changes are behind the larger body sizes. According to rumors, the expected battery capacities for the iPhone 16 series are:

Apple has already made several changes to the Dynamic Island notch and Action Button this year, and the size increase expected for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max would mark the biggest body change since the iPhone 12 series. As iPhone sizes creep up generation after generation, that could make phones harder to fit into some pockets and bags, and may leave fans of smaller phones wanting more. Whether the 5x Telephoto Camera — currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max — gets an upgrade on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max also remains to be seen. Rumors further suggest the ultrawide camera sensor could be upgraded to 48MP, so there’s plenty to watch for on the camera front as well.
Rumors suggest the iPhone 16 series could be unveiled around September 2024, with pricing expected to start at $799. Generative AI, one of today’s hottest tech topics, may also make its way into the iPhone’s Photos and Notes apps. Among an expected seven color options, black, pink, and purple are among the predictions. Since the iPhone 15 came in black, blue, green, pink, and yellow, purple could mark a new addition to Apple’s color lineup, alongside a possible white option as well.
