Each generation has brought its own distinct set of upgrades, and today, foldable phones have earned recognition as genuinely practical devices that represent an elevated lifestyle in everyday life. With that in mind, here’s a look back at how the Galaxy Z Fold series has evolved generation by generation since it first launched in 2019.

Galaxy Fold — 2019
Samsung launched the first Galaxy Z Fold in 2019, debuting with innovative technology and a distinctive folding design. This first-generation Galaxy Fold measured 17.1mm thick when folded and weighed 276 grams.

Galaxy Z Fold2 — 2020
Building on the experience gained from the first generation, the Galaxy Z Fold2 brought significant improvements to both design and performance, with the hinge seeing major upgrades. Its folded thickness dropped to just 16.8mm, while its weight came in at 282 grams.

Galaxy Z Fold3 — 2021
The third-generation Galaxy Z Fold3 became the first foldable series with water resistance, built with water-resistant technology in both the exterior and the hinge. It was also thinner than previous generations and lighter thanks to the use of Armor Aluminium, with its folded thickness reduced to 16mm and its weight down to 271 grams.

The fourth-generation Galaxy Z Fold4 cut its weight down to 263 grams, with a folded thickness of 15.8mm, earning it recognition in the smartphone world as the lightest and most rugged foldable smartphone of its time.

With upgrades to both its interior and exterior, the Galaxy Z Fold5 became thinner and lighter still, with a folded thickness of 13.4mm and a weight of 253 grams, making it a series especially well-loved by buyers.

The next generation of Samsung’s foldable lineup is expected soon, and reports suggest it will incorporate powerful AI technology as well. The newest Galaxy Z Fold series will be unveiled to the world from Paris, France, at 7:30pm Myanmar Standard Time on July 10.
