Smartphones and computers have steadily evolved into technology devices that have become indispensable in everyone’s daily life. But the days of having to carry a phone with you everywhere may be coming to an end. Smartwatch and smart glasses technology also keeps advancing, so the role of wearables can’t be overlooked either. Humane has now introduced the AI Pin, a device that projects images directly in front of your eyes as an augmented reality device rather than relying on a physical screen.
This device, about the size of a smartwatch, can display a screen using AR technology and also includes a screen-less smart assistant AI system. Inside, it packs an octa-core Qualcomm® Snapdragon processor with 4GB of memory and up to 32GB of storage to support its customised Android-based operating system. The top of the device is angled slightly so the built-in camera can easily capture photos and videos for the person wearing it.
The device uses voice recognition along with its optical sensor and microphone to sense its surroundings. For the camera, it uses a built-in f/2.4 aperture camera capable of capturing photos up to 4208×3120 px.
Users can control the AI Pin device using the touchpad on the front, and it can also be controlled through hand gestures. Its AI system is also highly capable, able to convert speech to text while detecting emotional tone — from excitement to nervousness.
The AI Pin’s standout feature, its Laser Ink Display, is designed to track the user’s palm. This display shows UI elements at 720p resolution, effectively turning your palm into a Palm Pilot. Menus and options can be selected using gestures.
Humane’s AI Pin starts at $699, and additional accessories will also be available. It will come in three colour options: Equinox, Lunar, and Eclipse.
