Samsung Electronics recently released a Gaming Insight Study on online gaming in the Southeast Asia & Oceania (SEAO) region, and the survey found that 7 out of every 10 online users in the region enjoy playing online games.
The survey, conducted in partnership with One Esports, polled more than 6,800 online users aged 18 to 49 across seven regional markets (Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) during the fourth quarter of 2022.

According to the survey, 74% of respondents said they play games to relax, and they play for an average of about 7 hours per week. Most gamers (92%) usually play comfortably at home, and 58% were also found to spend an average of about US$30 a month on things like exclusive in-game content, tickets to watch esports tournaments, streamer subscriptions, skins, and merchandise.

Based on how much time respondents spent playing and watching gaming content, they were divided into four groups: Hardcore Gamers, Gaming Enthusiasts, Casual Gamers & Spectators, and Casual Gamers. Under this classification, more than half (56%) turned out to be Hardcore Gamers and Gaming Enthusiasts — people who play games regularly every week and regularly watch gaming content.
What kinds of gaming content these Hardcore Gamers and Gaming Enthusiasts tend to watch and play can be seen below.
