From Commitment to Action: ATOM's Impactful Social Responsibility Journey from 2022 to 2023

ATOM, a company committed to delivering Myanmar’s best 4.5G VoLTE service and to implementing corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, is proud to have created meaningful positive impact for individuals and communities across Myanmar through its CSR initiatives since June 2022.

Over the 19 months through December 2023, ATOM contributed a total of MMK 2,274 million in line with its core focus areas: social and educational development, digital transformation of the education and healthcare sectors, and humanitarian assistance. These initiatives positively impacted the lives of 346,520 people across Myanmar.

“At ATOM, we believe we can bring meaningful, positive change to the lives of all the customers we serve. Our corporate social responsibility efforts are a core part of our company culture, and we are committed to supporting communities, delivering meaningful change for the lives of those in need, and helping shape an equitable and sustainable future for Myanmar,” said U Win Paing Kyaw, Deputy CEO of ATOM.

Social and Educational Development

ATOM has made significant contributions to social and educational development across Myanmar. To help more than 2,603 students receive a better education, ATOM donated MMK 882 million toward upgrading, rebuilding, and renovating the learning environments of 8 orphanages. These donations provided safe, quality learning environments, giving students full access to a brighter future.

Digital Transformation of Education and Healthcare

ATOM is committed to bridging Myanmar’s digital divide and expanding access to technology. As a telemedicine initiative, ATOM invested MMK 86 million to provide free, 24/7 phone-based healthcare consultations, reaching 86,696 people and helping expand access to healthcare services, particularly in remote areas. ATOM also donated MMK 72 million to establish ICT labs equipped with information and communication technology tools for 6,970 students across 4 schools, providing digital literacy skills essential for the 21st century.

Humanitarian Assistance

ATOM has shaped its humanitarian care and support efforts by carrying out relief work in disaster-affected areas. For example, in 2023, following Cyclone Mocha’s landfall in Rakhine State, ATOM donated basic relief supplies worth MMK 258 million to 19,050 people. ATOM also provided basic food supplies, water purification tablets, and oral rehydration salts worth MMK 96 million to more than 21,000 flood-affected people in Mon State, Kayin State, and Bago Region.

Since late 2022, ATOM has donated rice bags worth MMK 540 million to 150,000 people through its “Rays of Kindness, ATOM’s Heart” program, demonstrating the company’s commitment to giving back by providing essential support to communities facing food insecurity and in need of special care. From June 2022 through December 2023, ATOM carried out donation programs and CSR initiatives worth a total of MMK 340 million, positively impacting 60,201 people.

ATOM’s Culture of CSR and Employee Volunteerism

ATOM employees’ active participation in CSR activities highlights how deeply community engagement is embedded in ATOM’s corporate culture. Since August 2022, ATOM has held 14 CSR events, with an average of about 20 employees volunteering at each event. This active employee participation not only contributes to the success of these programs but also cultivates a culture of compassion and social responsibility within the company.

ATOM’s CSR Priorities for 2024

In 2024, as part of its CSR initiatives, ATOM will begin expanding into a new focus area: environmental conservation programs for sustainable development. At the same time, under the “Share ATOM’s Heart” banner, the company is planning programs to expand access to quality education and healthcare services, alongside continued humanitarian care and support for communities in need.

Nurturing Myanmar’s next generation is also a key focus for ATOM, which seeks out talented young people across the country and connects with them by offering internships, scholarships, and training courses. To further foster interest in technology, ATOM will also partner with other organizations on programs like “ATOM Tech Masterminds,” offering exciting opportunities for challenges and knowledge-building.

ATOM measures the long-term impact of its CSR efforts by the number of people who benefit, while upholding labor and human rights standards set out in its code of conduct for its own operations and business dealings. True to its commitment to transparency, ATOM promotes ethical business practices among employees company-wide through anti-corruption training and awareness campaigns. To date, ATOM has conducted more than 1,100 business audits and provided more than 2,000 hours of training to its product and service vendors to ensure clear understanding of the company’s vendor code of conduct.
