Microsoft has introduced Designer, a new easy-to-use graphic design application. Designer will be available for free, and will also be included as part of Office productivity software subscriptions.
Among the simple, AI-powered platforms for graphic design, Canva has long been a go-to choice — and now Microsoft is rolling out new features aimed at boosting the value of its Office subscription.

The Designer app is mainly aimed at Microsoft users, but it’s also expected to be quite useful for companies, organizations, agencies, training centers, and schools.
Speaking at a conference in July about Microsoft’s Office products, CEO Satya Nadella said, “No other company can support organizations and businesses with their digital operations the way Microsoft can.”

While the launch of the Designer app could put it in competition with Adobe’s design software, a Microsoft spokesperson said the new app won’t change the relationship between the two companies, noting that Microsoft and Adobe already have more than 30 jointly developed products.
Users will be able to create social media posts and designs much like they would with Canva. Designer is also connected to the DALL-E 2 artificial intelligence software, so users can simply type a description of the image they want and have a design generated for them.
Currently, users can join the waiting list at https://designer.microsoft.com/ to try the app for free during its preview period. When the app officially launches, a free tier will be available, along with a premium version for subscribers of Microsoft 365 Personal and Microsoft 365 Family.
